I’m thrilled that everything worked out again this year! It’s a bit early, but with the weather being so perfect, I couldn’t resist uncovering my babies. I’m beyond excited they’ve returned!
I’m only uncovering some of my babies for now – my red ones in the backyard are still off-limits. It’s just a bit too early for them!
A beautiful day for a fire in the backyard. The weather today is absolutely beautiful, hovering around +4°C, and there’s a refreshing warmth in the air. The snow is beginning to melt, slowly revealing patches of grass beneath, which is a sure sign that spring might finally be on its way. It’s such a peaceful moment, with the sun shining down and the sounds of nature starting to return. The promise of brighter, warmer days ahead is definitely in the air.
This week, I happened to be on standby, so I decided to use some company fuel and head north to one of our sites to pick up more spruce trees. With Turd in the passenger seat, we set off. Despite a few rain showers along the way, we arrived at the station.
I grabbed gloves and a shovel and started digging. Before long, I had 18 little spruce trees loaded in the back of the company truck. We headed back home to plant them in their new home. It was a quick but successful trip.
Today, I decided to head down to the farm and help Matthew plant his garden. I packed a few beers and the new drone, then set off south. When we tried to start the rototiller borrowed from Auntie Marianne, we pulled and pulled until it finally sputtered to life, though it didn’t sound great.
Matthew managed one pass down the garden before the connecting rod broke and punched a hole in the crankcase, rendering the tiller useless. Fortunately, he had sprayed the garden a couple of weeks ago and had managed to work the soil last night.
We grabbed the seeds and began planting (with a beers along the way). Now, it’s up to Mother Nature!
Okay mother nature, work your magic, water my trees!!!🌲

Trees are planted and the rain hopefully is coming saving me watering 42 new trees and it’s only the 21st of May…
Ahhhh I just remembered I bought some stuff at auction sale in Caroline today, so I guess Turd and I will be heading out west to pick up my goodies from the auction and probably 20 new 🌲
Oh, did I say I’m on holidays for the week??
March 17th heralds the arrival of the spring thaw, albeit briefly. Unfortunately, a cooldown is expected in the coming days. I’m hoping the cooler weather will provide some relief for my trees from the floodwaters they’ve been enduring.

What else can you do but feed your addiction… so out west I go!! This time to get a few bigger trees but less of them. Only 12, this time!! Large beautiful starter trees for the yard 😎
Sophia needs front tires again!! The crappy part is the price of new tires keeps going up!! The service from Stettler Kal-Tire (Travis) is truly an amazing experience!! There is no one better!! He understands what this car means to me. He touches her with his gentle hands and a great deal of respect!!
I just wish Turd would learn a thing or two about respecting Sophia…

The time has come to uncover some of my roses!! Awesome!! There is green under all those insulating leaves!!
With the warmer weather upon us I get the itch to plant and nurture a few more trees! So, up early and off we go! Time to transplant another 20+ trees onto the acreage. The weather was a little cloudy which made for a excellent retrieval. Not so HOT! These little babies came from just north of Burntstick Lake. A busy little road pointed us right to the perfect location. A power line right-of-way where the trees would either be mowed or sprayed. Our new additions won’t know what hit them with the extra care and attention that they are going to receive.
The warm weather is upon us and this time of year is so optimistic. You work the flowerbeds, you uncover the roses, you plant a few bulbs and hope for the best! The rest is up to Mother Nature 🤔
