Early Morning Start

Posted on November 1, 2025August 3, 2026 by crazy2b

Up before dawn, I got the coffee brewing — every good morning starts with a strong cup of java. The quads were unloaded and ready for the day’s run. A quick breakfast of classic Frosted Flakes and an apple turnover hit the spot before we geared up.

The morning was absolutely beautiful — crisp and just below freezing, the kind of air that wakes you right up. After topping up our coffee and strapping down the last of the gear, we set off down the road toward the first numbered trail, heading east into the hills.

It was still a little dark, so we stopped briefly for a chat before pushing on down the trail. Reaching the top of the hill, we paused for an in-depth scan of the swamp below. The view was incredible, but there wasn’t any movement — no sign of moose yet.

Matthew decided he wanted to hike down into the swamp for a closer look. We planned his route and set a time for him to check back in. While he trekked off, I stayed up top, keeping watch over the valley below.

Five hours later, Matthew returned grinning from ear to ear — he’d found a massive moose shed! He couldn’t have been prouder. We knew we were in moose country; they just weren’t showing themselves today.

We took a short ride back to camp for lunch and a few well-earned afternoon drinks. Supper was double bacon cheeseburgers cooked over the open fire — simple, smoky, and absolutely delicious. A couple more drinks by the fire, then off to bed early; with the time change, Sunday would be coming sooner than we’d like.

Halloween

Today was all about settling into camp, unwinding with a few drinks, and enjoying some good food. Tonight’s dinner featured delicious mussels and perfectly seasoned asparagus. It was incredible—so flavorful! Even though Matthew forgot the wine for the sauce and had to substitute vodka, it turned out to be a surprising hit.

Time to start some flowers

Posted on March 31, 2025August 3, 2026 by crazy2b

The days are slowly getting longer, and it’s the perfect time to get a jump on the growing season by starting plants in the indoor greenhouse. There’s something rewarding about seeing those first green shoots push through the soil, a reminder that spring is just around the corner. The warmth inside contrasts with the chill outdoors, filling the space with life and promise. Each seed tray holds a bit of optimism — the hope of strong plants, healthy harvests, and another season of growth and learning ahead.

Maybe Spring is near?

Posted on March 27, 2025August 3, 2026 by crazy2b

A beautiful day for a fire in the backyard. The weather today is absolutely beautiful, hovering around +4°C, and there’s a refreshing warmth in the air. The snow is beginning to melt, slowly revealing patches of grass beneath, which is a sure sign that spring might finally be on its way. It’s such a peaceful moment, with the sun shining down and the sounds of nature starting to return. The promise of brighter, warmer days ahead is definitely in the air.

Time to get some wood

Posted on March 25, 2025August 3, 2026 by crazy2b

Well, it’s time to burn up some of last year’s vacation and head out west to gather firewood for the summer ahead. Like I’ve done the past few years, I booked the last week of March off. Woke up this morning to some beautiful weather and figured it was a perfect day for a drive. Grabbed my free fire permit from the government website, loaded up the truck, and hit the road.

Already Green!! …. March 8th!!
Wow!!!

I’m thrilled that everything worked out again this year! It’s a bit early, but with the weather being so perfect, I couldn’t resist uncovering my babies. I’m beyond excited they’ve returned!

I’m only uncovering some of my babies for now – my red ones in the backyard are still off-limits. It’s just a bit too early for them!

Awesome!
